About This Project

Background

Federal Land Development Authority, better known as FELDA is the foremost land development agency in Malaysia, was established on 1st July 1956 under the Land Development Act 1956 as a result of recommendation of Government Working Committee.

Today, FELDA has developed approximately 480 new areas totaling 853,313 hectares, which became plantation and settlement areas. Through its land development and settlement, FELDA has uplifted the living standard of the rural community as well as narrowing the gap in the quality of the life between the urban and rural population.

Current Situation

FELDA communities have limited facilities and lack of knowledge in ICT, related directly to the fact that they are not widely exposed to current technologies. The communities there also experience weak network coverage, which makes them quite difficult to communicate through the technologies provided, due to this weakness. Furthermore, the lack of knowledge to communicate to outside world somehow limits their capability of widening their business opportunities through the usage of ICT.

Problem Or Opportunity

  • Communities in FELDA have limited exposure in ICT and its benefits as well as its abilities. Besides that, facilities related to ICT that are provided in FELDA are not being fully utilized by its communities.

Objective of this Business Case
  • Identify the main problem in FELDA that relates to ICT.
  • To enable Maxis to plan effective strategies in order to meet the project’s missions and goals.
  • To enable the project plan to be well managed and controlled properly

Organization's Goal and Strategy
  • To improve the ICT skills among FELDA communities to a better state through demonstrations and hands on facilities.
  • To encourage the modernization of FELDA by exposing the usage of ICT among communities in that area by providing IT facilities for public places.
  • To build an excellent platform between Maxis and communities in FELDA especially in the aspect of ICT through this tour, within the time constraint.

Project's Measurable Organizational Value

This project will be successful if ICT awareness and skills can be effectively understood and applied by communities in FELDA towards becoming a more modernized and well known community.

Relation Between Project's Measurable Organizational Value and Organizational's Goal and Strategy

  • Fundamental understanding about ICT among communities in FELDA will be effective through interactive ICT activities.

  • Maxis can widen their business opportunity and introduce services they offered in various ways.
  • Through a systematic management, budget and profit can be controlled effectively.
